Fetus

 

These are sonograms of the fetus within Salma's uterus. They were taken this morning, Monday January 31, 2000 in Cambridge, MA, USA. The black triangular cavity is the uterus. The fetus is against the lower right wall of the uterus. The fetus is approximately 8 weeks into gestation. A small oval can be discerned in the gray area above and slightly to the left of the fetus; this is the yolk sack.

 
 

This sonogram is at a higher magnification. The two small cursor cross hairs were used to measure the length of the fetus (18 mm). Its heartbeat was also measured at 170 beats per minute.
