Salma in Miata. June 1998. Since I was twelve years old I have been experimenting with photography. I remember my uncle taking me to the basement of his house in Sicily. In the dank insect infested place he showed me the rudimentary tools of the craft. I later begged my parents to buy me a G.A.F. darkroom kit. I had no idea what to do with it. I first put the yellow bulb in the contact printing box and the white bulb I used as a room light. My images of course were pure black.  I pursued it until I developed a proper image only to be belittled at the size of the images. (They were contact prints from 126 instamatic film.)
I remember going to the library and checking out a photography book by Andreas Feininger. The book was ancient even then. The intricacies of the art intrigued me (I'm a confessed technophile) but I couldn't possibly imagine how I could take the measure of every parameter and find the optimal settings and composition and still have it be daylight.

I don't get to work on my photography very often and just about given up on chemicals
